Rising costs and static funding agreements are forcing charities like the YMCA to cut back on critical services.
Key Facts:
Ontario YMCAs are an important delivery partner of provincially funded programs, including employment training, newcomer services, healthy child and youth development and other wrap-around supports that provide assistance to people facing barriers.
Inflationary pressures are eroding service capacity, leaving communities without full access to the critical programs and services they need to thrive.
Recommendations:
Fund Inflation Adjustments: Ensure that all multi-year funding agreements account for rising costs, as was done with the Child Care Funding Formula. Support Staff Compensation: Increase funding for frontline workers to retain skilled staff and address wage compression. Rectify Capital Under-Funding: Inject new funding into existing capital projects to account for pandemic-related delays and cost escalations.
