Strengthen Communities
through Recreation

The Issue:

Ontario's aging recreational infrastructure is not equipped to meet the needs of a growing population.

Key Facts:

Ontario YMCAs operate over 60 recreation centres serving urban, suburban, and rural areas.

Accessible recreation facilities promote better physical and mental health outcomes and reduce health care costs.

Recreation infrastructure is the lynchpin to building complete communities. Families, when making choices about where to live, are looking for services and amenities that support their health and well-being.

Recommendations:

Invest in the expansion of community sport and recreation: help modernize facilities, build new centres, address infrastructure gaps in underserved areas and provide accessible spaces for all Ontarians.
